Aesop’s Fables – Der Waggoner und Herkules
Once upon a time, there lived a farmer who had a small farm. He used to harvest his crops and then take his cart to the market. The market was in the nearby village and he had to go through a country road.
TranslateEs lebte einmal ein Bauer, der einen kleinen Hof hatte. Er pflegte sein Getreide zu ernten und dann mit seinem Wagen zum Markt zu fahren. Der Markt war im nahe gelegenen Dorf und er musste über eine Landstraße fahren.
One day when travelling to the market, it began to rain heavily. Soon the entire route was filled with muck and slush. The horses were struggling to pull the cart. Soon, the wheels became so filled with mud that they sank into the ground.
TranslateEines Tages, als er auf dem Weg zum Markt war, begann es stark zu regnen. Bald war die gesamte Strecke mit Dreck und Matsch gefüllt. Die Pferde taten sich schwer, den Karren zu ziehen. Bald füllten sich die Räder so mit Schlamm, dass sie in den Boden sanken.
The farmer cried, “Oh I have such bad luck”.
Much as the horses tried, they could not pull the cart out of the mud. He got out of the cart and stood next to the horses and cursed his bad luck.
TranslateDer Bauer rief:
„Oh, ich habe so viel Pech.”
So sehr die Pferde es auch versuchten, sie konnten den Karren nicht aus dem Schlamm ziehen. Er stieg aus dem Wagen, stellte sich neben die Pferde und verfluchte sein Pech.
“The mud is so deep and my luck is so bad. Even if the great and mighty Hercules were to come, he could not lift this cart up.”
Translate„Der Schlamm ist so tief und mein Glück ist so schlecht. Selbst wenn der große und mächtige Herkules kommen würde, könnte er diesen Wagen nicht anheben. “
He cursed and cursed but did not take any effort to remove the cart out of the mud. Eventually a man came and heard him curse.
TranslateEr fluchte und fluchte, bemühte sich aber nicht, den Wagen aus dem Schlamm zu entfernen. Schließlich kam ein Mann und hörte ihn fluchen.
The man said, “Well, instead of cursing Hercules, you could help remove the mud around wheels of the wagon. That would get it out of the mud. Stop your whining and start taking some effort to help yourself.”

The Farmer dug out the mud next to the wheels and soon the horses happily pulled out the cart.
The man said, “I hope that you have learnt your lesson. Self help is the best help one can get.”
TranslateDer Bauer grub den Schlamm neben den Rädern aus und bald zogen die Pferde glücklich den Wagen heraus.
Der Mann sagte: „Ich hoffe, dass Sie Ihre Lektion gelernt haben. Selbsthilfe ist die beste Hilfe, die man bekommen kann. “
