Aesop’s Fables – Il lupo e la gru
Once upon a time, there was a very wicked wolf. The wolf was eating a large fish. In its greed, it ate a large bone. The bone was very sharp and it got stuck in its throat. The wolf howled in pain.
TranslateC’era una volta un lupo molto malvagio. Il lupo stava mangiando un grosso pesce. Nella sua avidità, mangiò un grosso osso. L’osso era molto affilato e gli si conficcò in gola. Il lupo ululò di dolore.
“Oh the bone hurts so much. What should I do to get it out? Maybe I should cough?” he thought.
He tried to cough and get it out.
“Cough!! Cough!!” he loudly coughed. But the bone did not move and was still in his throat.
Translate“Oh, l’osso fa così male. Cosa devo fare per farlo uscire? Forse dovrei tossire?” pensò.
Ha cercato di tossire e di tirarlo fuori.
“Cough! Cough!” tossì rumorosamente. Ma l’osso non si mosse ed era ancora nella sua gola.
“Oh the bone hurts so much. What should I do to get it out? Maybe I should drink water?” he thought.
He gulped down a lot of water.
“Gulp!! Gulp!!” he drank the water. But the bone did not move and was still in his throat.
Translate“Oh, l’osso fa così male. Cosa devo fare per farlo uscire? Forse dovrei bere acqua?” pensò.
Bevve molta acqua.
“Gulp! Gulp!” bevve l’acqua. Ma l’osso non si mosse ed era ancora nella sua gola.
“Oh the bone hurts so much. What should I do to get it out? Maybe I should eat some more?” he thought.
He ate one more piece of fish.
“Crunch!! Crunch!!” he ate the fish. But the bone did not move and was still in his throat.
Translate“Oh, l’osso fa così male. Cosa devo fare per farlo uscire? Forse dovrei mangiare un po’ di più?” pensò.
Mangiò un altro pezzo di pesce.
“Crunch! Crunch!” mangiò il pesce. Ma l’osso non si mosse ed era ancora nella sua gola.
“Oh the bone hurts so much. What should I do to get it out? I need help” he thought.
He walked around and saw a crane. He saw that the crane had a very long neck and a very long beak.
Translate“Oh, l’osso fa così male. Cosa devo fare per farlo uscire? Ho bisogno di aiuto” pensò.
Fece un giro e vide una gru. Vide che la gru aveva un collo molto lungo e un becco molto lungo.
“If the crane puts its beak and head down my throat, it can take out the bone” thought the wolf. The wolf went to the crane and spoke to it.
Translate“Se la gru mette il becco e la testa nella mia gola, può estrarre l’osso” pensava il lupo. Il lupo andò alla gru e gli parlò.
“Mrs Crane. A piece of bone is stuck to my throat. Can you please help me out? I will reward you very well.”
Translate“Signora Gru. Un pezzo di osso è attaccato alla mia gola. Potete per favore aiutarmi? Ti ricompenserò molto bene.”
The crane knew the wolf was wicked but she was greedy. She thought to herself “But I want the reward so much. Maybe the wolf will give me so many fish that I don’t need to hunt ever again”
“Of course, Mr Wolf. I shall help you”, said the crane and reached down his throat and pulled the bone out. The wolf was very happy and thanked the crane.
TranslateLa gru sapeva che il lupo era malvagio, ma lei era avida. Pensò tra sé e sé “Ma voglio così tanto la ricompensa. Forse il lupo mi darà così tanti pesci che non ho bisogno di cacciare mai più”
«Certo, signor Wolf. Ti aiuterò”, disse la gru e allungò la mano sulla sua gola e tirò fuori l’osso. Il lupo era molto felice e ringraziò la gru.
“Thank you Mrs. Crane. I shall be leaving now”, he said walking away.
“But you promised me a reward Mr Wolf”, said the greedy crane.
The wolf turned and growled at the crane.
Translate“Grazie signora. Me ne vado adesso”, disse allontanandosi.
“Ma mi hai promesso una ricompensa!”, disse la gru avida.
Il lupo si voltò e ringhiò alla gru.
“Reward? Did I not give you your reward already? I did not eat you when you put your head down my throat. Don’t you think that is a good reward?”
Saying so, the wolf walked away and the crane learnt a lesson.
Translate“Ricompensa? Non ti ho già dato la tua ricompensa? Non ti ho mangiato quando mi hai messo la testa in gola. Non pensi che sia una buona ricompensa?”
Così dicendo, il lupo si allontanò e la gru imparò una lezione.
Moral: Expect no reward for serving the wicked.
TranslateMorale: non aspettarti alcuna ricompensa per aver servito i malvagi.
