Aesop’s Fables – La part du lion
Once upon a time, there was a lion who was very strong. He could hunt well but of course as we know, a lion never hunts alone. Two or three lions could even kill an elephant.
TranslateIl était une fois un lion très fort. Il pouvait bien chasser mais , comme nous le savons, un lion ne chasse jamais seul. Deux ou trois lions pourraient même tuer un éléphant.
Seeing that the Lion was alone, three animals thought that they should become friends with him. They were a jackal, a wolf and a fox. The jackal and the fox could hunt only rabbits and squirrels. The wolf could hunt slightly bigger but not an elephant of course.
TranslateEn voyant le lion seul, trois animaux ont pensé qu’ils devraient devenir amis avec lui. C’était un chacal, un loup et un renard. Le chacal et le renard ne pouvaient chasser que des lapins et des écureuils. Le loup pourrait chasser un peu plus gros mais pas un éléphant.
They thought, “If we were to become friends with the lion, we could hunt huge animals. We could eat elephants and camels. We could eat deer and antelopes. We are going to never be hungry again.”
TranslateIls ont pensé: «Si nous devions devenir amis avec le lion, nous pourrions chasser d’énormes animaux. Nous pourrions manger des éléphants et des chameaux. Nous pourrions manger des cerfs et des antilopes. Nous n’aurions plus jamais faim. »
The lion agreed to go hunting with the three of them and said, “Let us share equally whatever we hunt equally amongst the four of us.”
TranslateLe lion a accepté d’aller chasser avec eux trois et a dit: «Partageons tout ce que nous chassons également parmi nous quatre.»
They managed to find a stag. The fox and the hyena scared the stag and it began to run towards the trees. The wolf was waiting in the trees and tripped the stag. When the stag fell, the lion pounced on him and killed the Stag.
TranslateIls ont réussi à trouver un cerf. Le renard et la hyène ont effrayé le cerf et il a commencé à courir vers les arbres. Le loup attendait dans les arbres et a fait trébucher le cerf. Quand le cerf est tombé, le lion s’est jeté sur lui et a tué le cerf.
They were all very happy. A stag would be enough for all of them. They would not have to hunt again for three or four days. The Lion directly sat at the front of the stag and asked the other three to move back.
TranslateIls étaient tous très heureux. Un cerf leur suffirait à tous. Ils n’auraient plus à chasser pendant trois ou quatre jours. Le lion s’assit directement à l’avant du cerf et demanda aux trois autres de reculer.
The lion said, “There are four of us. We need to split the stag into four equal pieces.”
The lion cut the stag into four parts.
“The first part goes to me since I am the King.”
TranslateLe lion a dit: «Nous sommes quatre. Nous devons diviser le cerf en quatre morceaux égaux.»
Le lion a coupé le cerf en quatre parties.
«La première partie me revient parce que je suis le roi.»
The wolf, the jackal and the hyena became very happy. They started to move to the remaining portion when the lion stopped them.
TranslateLe loup, le chacal et la hyène sont devenus très heureux. Ils ont commencé à se déplacer vers la partie restante lorsque le lion les a arrêtés.
“The second part goes the bravest. Who is that? That would again be me.”
Translate«La deuxième partie appartient au plus courageux. Qui est-ce? Ce serait encore moi.»
“The third part goes to the strongest. Who is the strongest amongst us? That would be me. The third part also belongs to me.”
Translate«La troisième partie va au plus fort. Qui est le plus fort parmi nous? Ce serait moi. La troisième partie m’appartient également.»
The wolf, the jackal and the hyena became very angry. They wanted to protest but the lion was too strong to argue with. They kept quiet.
TranslateLe loup, le chacal et la hyène sont devenus très en colère. Ils voulaient protester mais le lion était trop fort pour discuter. Ils se taisent.
The lion said, “If anyone wants to fight with me for the fourth part, you may stay and die. The others can go before I kill you too.”
TranslateLe lion a annoncé: «Si quelqu’un veut se combattre avec moi pour la quatrième partie, vous pouvez rester et mourir. Les autres peuvent partir avant que je vous tue aussi.»
The wolf, the jackal and the hyena immediately ran away.
TranslateLe loup, le chacal et la hyène se sont immédiatement enfuis.
Moral: “Might is right.”
TranslateMorale: «La force prime le droit.»
