Aesop’s Fables – De Vos en de druiven
Once upon a time, a fox was walking down the forest. He saw a grape vine climbing up a tree. There was a bunch of delicious grapes hanging from the vines. The grapes looked as if it would burst with the tastiest of juice. The mouth of the fox watered on seeing the grapes.
TranslateEr was eens een vos die door het bos liep. Hij zag een wijnstok in een boom klimmen. Er hing een tros heerlijke druiven aan de wijnstokken. De druiven zagen eruit alsof ze zouden barsten van het lekkerste sap. De mond van de vos liep water bij het zien van de druiven.
“Wow. Those grapes look so tasty. I wish I could eat them.” he said to himself.
The fox stood directly underneath the grapes. He stared up at the grapes.
Translate“Wauw. Die druiven zien er zo lekker uit. Ik wou dat ik ze kon opeten.” zei hij in zichzelf.
De vos stond direct onder de druiven. Hij staarde naar de druiven.
“My oh my. The grapes are at such a great height. I have to jump in order to catch them.”
The fox took one deep breath and jumped up as high as he could. Sadly, the grapes were too high up and he could not reach them.
Translate“Mijn oh mijn. De druiven hangen zo hoog. Ik moet springen om ze te kunnen plukken.”
De vos haalde een keer diep adem en sprong zo hoog als hij kon. Helaas waren de druiven te hoog en kon hij er niet bij.
“Maybe if I run and jump, I can reach them.” he wondered.
He went back a few steps and then ran as fast as he could and jumped. Sadly, the grapes were too high up and he could not reach them.
Translate“Als ik ren en spring, kan ik ze misschien wel bereiken.” Verwonderde hij zich.
Hij ging een paar passen achteruit en rende toen zo snel als hij kon en sprong. Helaas hingen de druiven te hoog en kon hij er niet bij.
“Maybe if I run more and jump, I can reach them”, he wondered.
He went back a good distance. He ran as fast as he could and jumped. The grapes were still too high up and he could not reach them.
Translate“Als ik meer ren en spring, kan ik ze misschien bereiken.” Verwonderde hij zich.
Hij ging een eind terug. Hij rende zo snel als hij kon en sprong. De druiven hingen nog te hoog en hij kon er niet bij.
Again and again he tried and still could not reach them. He finally gave up and sat down under the grapes. He looked at the grapes with disgust.
TranslateKeer op keer probeerde hij het maar kon ze nog steeds niet bereiken. Uiteindelijk gaf hij het op en ging onder de druiven zitten. Hij keek met walging naar de druiven.
“What a fool I am. Why am I wasting so much time? These grapes look sour and probably taste very bad.”
Translate“Wat een dwaas ben ik. Waarom verspil ik zoveel tijd? Deze druiven zien er zuur uit en smaken waarschijnlijk erg slecht.”
Saying so, the fox walked away.
TranslateTerwijl hij dit zei, liep de vos weg.
Moral: There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
TranslateMoraal: er zijn velen die doen alsof ze datgene wat buiten hun bereik ligt, verachten en kleineren.
