Tenali Raman –Tenali Raman en de paardenhandelaar
One day, a horse trader came to Krishandevaraya’s court. He said to the king that he was from Saudi Arabia. He had a beautiful black horse with him. It was the most beautiful horse which Krishnadevaraya had seen.
TranslateOp een dag kwam een paardenhandelaar naar het hof van Krishandevaraya. Hij zei tegen de koning dat hij uit Saoedi-Arabië kwam. Hij had een prachtig zwart paard bij zich. Het was het mooiste paard dat Krishnadevaraya had gezien.
The horse trader said, “My King, please see this beautiful horse! It is my finest and the best breed. It can run for miles without taking rest and has no fear in war.
Krishandevaraya replied, “This is the a breed which I do not have in my stable. I shall buy it from you.
TranslateDe paardenhandelaar zei: “Mijn koning, zie alstublieft dit prachtige paard! Het is mijn mooiste en beste ras. Het kan kilometers rennen zonder rust te nemen en is niet bang voor oorlog.”
Krishandevaraya antwoordde: “Dit is een ras dat ik niet in mijn stal heb. Ik zal het van je kopen.”
The horse trader said, “My King, will only one horse be enough for a great king? I have eleven more horses in my stable. I can go and get them all for you.”
The king saw the beautiful horse standing in front of him and said, “I agree with you. I will buy all the twelve horses from you”.
TranslateDe paardenhandelaar zei: “Mijn koning, zal slechts één paard genoeg zijn voor een grote koning? Ik heb nog elf paarden in mijn stal. Ik kan ze allemaal voor je gaan halen.”
De koning zag het mooie paard voor hem staan en zei: ‘Ik ben het met je eens. Ik zal alle twaalf paarden van je kopen.”
The horse trader said, “My King. I need an advance of 5000 gold coins. I shall ride this horse and travel to my stables just outside the kingdom. I shall bring all bring all 12 horses over to your stable in three days.”
TranslateDe paardenhandelaar zei: “Mijn koning. Ik heb een voorschot van 5000 gouden munten nodig. Ik zal op dit paard rijden en naar mijn stallen net buiten het koninkrijk reizen. Ik zal alle 12 paarden binnen drie dagen naar uw stal brengen.”
The King was very happy and asked the treasurer to give the coins to the horse trader. The horse trader took the money and left. Three days passed and then one week passed.
Krishnadevaraya became very worried. He said to Tenali Raman, “Where is the horse trader? He said that he would be back in 3 days but it was already one week”
TranslateDe koning was erg blij en vroeg de penningmeester om de munten aan de paardenhandelaar te geven. De paardenhandelaar nam het geld aan en vertrok. Er gingen drie dagen voorbij en toen ging er een week voorbij.
Krishnadevaraya werd erg ongerust. Hij zei tegen Tenali Raman: “Waar is de paardenhandelaar? Hij zei dat hij over 3 dagen terug zou zijn, maar het was al een week later.”
Tenali Raman was writing something urgently on a piece of paper. Krishandevaraya said, “What are you writing so urgently, Tenali Raman?”
Tenali Raman replied, “I’m writing the list of the biggest fools in your kingdom.”
Krishna Deva Raya said, “Let me have a look.”
TranslateTenali Raman schreef dringend iets op een stuk papier. Krishandevaraya zei: “Wat schrijf je zo dringend, Tenali Raman?”
Tenali Raman antwoordde: “Ik schrijf de lijst van de grootste dwazen in uw koninkrijk.”
Krishna Deva Raya zei: “Laat me eens kijken.”
Tenali Raman handed him the paper. Krishna Deva Raya was very angry since his name was on the top of the list.
The king said, “Why is my name on this list? I’m the king!”
TranslateTenali Raman overhandigde hem het papier. Krishna Deva Raya was erg boos omdat zijn naam bovenaan de lijst stond.
De koning zei: “Waarom staat mijn naam op deze lijst? Ik ben de koning!”
Tenali Raman replied, “My King, You gave a total stranger 5000 gold coins without even seeing his horses or knowing his name. You still believe that he will return.”
Krishandevaraya said, “What if he returns?”
Tenali Raman replied, “I will put his name at the top of the list and remove your name.”
TranslateTenali Raman antwoordde: “Mijn koning, u hebt een totale vreemdeling 5000 gouden munten gegeven zonder zelfs maar zijn paarden te zien of zijn naam te kennen. Je gelooft nog steeds dat hij zal terugkeren.”
Krishandevaraya zei: “Wat als hij terugkeert?”
Tenali Raman antwoordde: “Ik zal zijn naam bovenaan de lijst zetten en jouw naam verwijderen.”
Another two weeks passed and the horse trader never came back. Krishnadevaraya became very sad.
Krishnadevaraya called Tenali Raman and said, “I understand why you wrote my name on the list. I will always consult you now on important matters.”
TranslateEr gingen nog twee weken voorbij en de paardenhandelaar kwam nooit meer terug. Krishnadevaraya werd erg verdrietig.
Krishnadevaraya belde Tenali Raman en zei: “Ik begrijp waarom je mijn naam op de lijst hebt geschreven. Ik zal nu altijd met je overleggen over belangrijke zaken.”
Tenali Raman gave him the list again. The king was confused. The Horse trader’s name was on top of the list and his name was not on the list.
Krishandevaraya asked, “Why is his name on the list? Did he bring the horses?”
TranslateTenali Raman gaf hem de lijst opnieuw. De koning was in de war. De naam van de paardenhandelaar stond bovenaan de lijst en zijn naam stond niet op de lijst.
Krishandevaraya vroeg: “Waarom staat zijn naam op de lijst? Heeft hij de paarden meegebracht?’
Tenali Raman replied, “No, my King. I added his name on the list since he thought that he would escape easily. I asked two guards to follow him and he was arrested when he was trying to escape.”
Krishandevaraya was very happy and said, “You are so smart Tenali. But why is my name not on the list? I was a fool.”
TranslateTenali Raman antwoordde: “Nee, mijn koning. Ik heb zijn naam aan de lijst toegevoegd omdat hij dacht dat hij gemakkelijk zou ontsnappen. Ik vroeg twee bewakers hem te volgen en hij werd gearresteerd toen hij probeerde te ontsnappen.”
Krishandevaraya was erg blij en zei: “Je bent zo slim Tenali. Maar waarom staat mijn naam niet op de lijst? Ik was een dwaas.”
Tenali Raman replied, “My King. I removed your name from the list since you are smart enough to trust me to be your minister. The 5000 coins have been returned to the treasury.”
Krishandevaraya was very happy and awarded Tenali Raman with 500 gold coins.
TranslateTenali Raman antwoordde: “Mijn koning. Ik heb uw naam van de lijst verwijderd omdat u slim genoeg bent om mij te vertrouwen als uw minister. De 5000 munten zijn teruggestort in de schatkist.”
Krishandevaraya was erg blij en beloonde Tenali Raman met 500 gouden munten.
