Aesop’s Fables – De kat
Once upon a time, there lived a family of mice in a large house. There was papa mouse with a fat belly, mama mouse with her tight hair bun, brother mouse with his long teeth, sister mouse with her curly hair, baby mouse with its small paws, grandpa mouse with his black cane and grandma mouse with her white hair. There were also 10 neighbour mice.

In this house, this family had an enemy, a very mean cat. The cat used to chase the mice all the time. The cat would hiss at the mice. The cat would steal their food. The cat would set up mouse traps. The cat would close the mouse holes. He was a very bad cat to the mice.

One day, the papa mouse called the entire family and all the neighbour mice for a meeting.
“Hello everyone! I hope everyone has had their tea and slice of cheese. Good, let us sit down”

“Dag iedereen! Ik hoop dat iedereen zijn thee en plakje kaas heeft gehad. Goed, laten we gaan zitten”
All the mice sat down holding their tea and cheese.
“We need to find a way to stop the cat”, said Mayor mouse.

The mice gave many ideas!

De muizen gaven veel ideeën!
“Let us kick her out of the house!” said brother mouse.
“She is so much bigger than us, how can we do that?” asked Grandpa mouse.
Translate“Laten we haar het huis uit schoppen!” zei broer muis.
‘Ze is zoveel groter dan wij, hoe kunnen we dat doen?” vroeg opa muis.
“Yes. Yes. The idea won’t work.” all the mice said together.
“We need another idea!”
Translate“Ja. Ja. Het idee gaat niet werken. ” zeiden alle muizen samen.
“We hebben een ander idee nodig!”
“Let us put her in a cage”, said sister mouse.
“We don’t have a big cage. How can we do that”, asked Grandma Mouse.
Translate“Laten we haar maar in een kooi stoppen”, zei muiszus.
“We hebben geen grote kooi. Hoe kunnen we dat doen ”, vroeg oma Muis.
“Yes. Yes. The idea won’t work” all the mice said together.
“We need another idea!”
Translate“Ja. Ja. Het idee werkt niet ”, zeiden alle muizen samen.
“We hebben een ander idee nodig!”
“Let’s scare her with fireworks.” Neighbour mouse said.
“We don’t have that many fireworks.” Mayor mouse said.
Translate“Laten we haar bang maken met vuurwerk.” Zei buurmuis.
“We hebben niet zoveel vuurwerk.” Zei burgemeester Muis.
“Yes. Yes. The idea won’t work.” All the mice said together.
“We need another idea!”
Translate“Ja. Ja. Het idee werkt niet. ” Zeiden alle muizen samen.
“We hebben een ander idee nodig!”
“Let’s bring a dog and he’ll scare the cat away” said sister mouse.
“The dog might scare us too”, said the mayor mouse.
Translate“Laten we een hond nemen, hij jaagt de kat wel weg.” Zei zus muis.
“De hond kan ons ook laten schrikken.” Zei de burgemeester Mouse.
“Yes. Yes. The idea won’t work.” said all the mice together.
“We need another idea!”
Translate“Ja. Ja. Het idee werkt niet ” Zeiden alle muizen samen.
“We hebben een ander idee nodig!”
They spoke. They talked. Finally baby mouse came up with an idea.
“I have an idea. This will surely work”, baby mouse said loudly.
TranslateZij spraken. Zij praatten. Uiteindelijk kwam babymuis met een idee.
“Ik heb een idee. Dit gaat zeker lukken.” Zei babymuisje luid.
“What is the idea? What is the idea?” said all the mice together excitedly.
Baby mouse looked around excitedly and said “Let us put a bell around the cat.”
Translate“Wat is het idee? Wat is het idee?” Zeiden alle muizen opgewonden samen.
Babymuis keek opgewonden om zich heen en zei: “Laten we een belletje om de kat doen.”
“But why put a bell on him? Oh, I don’t understand.” said baker mouse.
Baby mouse said, “Whenever the cat comes, we can hear the bell. When there is the sound of the bell, we can easily run away.”
Translate‘Maar waarom zou je hem een bel om doen? Oh, ik begrijp het niet.” Zei bakkersmuis.
“Elke keer als de kat komt, kunnen we de bel horen. Als er een bel klinkt, kunnen we gemakkelijk wegrennen.” Zei babymuisje
“That is a wonderful idea” said Mayor Mouse.
“Super Idea!” said Sister Mouse.
Translate“Dat is een geweldig idee.” Zei burgemeester muis.
“Super idee!” Zei zuster muis.
“Let’s buy a bell” said all the mice together.
“Wait! Wait! There is a problem with this idea.” said Teacher mouse.
Translate“Laten we een bel kopen.” Zeiden alle muizen samen.
“Wacht! Wacht! Er is een probleem met dit idee.” Zei Leraar muis.
“What, teacher mouse? What is the problem?” Said all the mice together.
“Who will put it around the cat’s neck?” She asked.
Translate“Wat, leraar muis? Wat is het probleem?” Zeiden alle muizen samen.
“Wie zal het om de nek van de kat doen?” Vroeg ze.
The moral of the story:
It’s one thing to say that something should be done, but quite a different matter to do it.
