Aesop’s Fables – de astroloog
Once upon a time, there was a man who lived in a tiny village.
The man used to say, “I am an astrologer. I am a great astrologer. I can see the stars and understand what they are saying. I can read anyone’s fortune in the stars.”

De man zei altijd: ‘Ik ben een astroloog. Ik ben een geweldige astroloog. Ik kan de sterren zien en begrijpen wat ze zeggen. Ik kan ieders fortuin in de sterren lezen.”
He used to stare at the night sky and always thought, “This is what this means…. Aaah.. So that is what this means…”
One day, he was walking to the forest when he saw the stars above.
TranslateHij staarde altijd naar de nachtelijke hemel en dacht altijd: “Dit is wat dit betekent …. Aaah.. Dus dat is wat dit betekent … “
Op een dag liep hij naar het bos toen hij de sterren boven hem zag.
He thought, “Ah the stars look very different today. It must mean only one thing. The world is going to end. I must warn everyone.”
He stared at the sky and kept walking. He was so engrossed that he did not see a large well in front of him. He fell into the well.
TranslateHij dacht: “Ah, de sterren zien er vandaag heel anders uit. Het moet maar één ding betekenen. De wereld gaat eindigen. Ik moet iedereen waarschuwen.”
Hij staarde naar de lucht en liep verder. Hij was zo in beslag genomen dat hij geen grote put voor zich zag. Hij viel in de put.
The man could not swim and started to scream. The villagers came and saved him.
The villagers asked the Astrologer, “Sir, what happened? The well is so large and open. How did you fall into the well? Even children do not fall into the well.”
TranslateDe man kon niet zwemmen en begon te schreeuwen. De dorpelingen kwamen hem redden.
De dorpelingen vroegen de astroloog: ‘Meneer, wat is er gebeurd? De put is zo groot en open. Hoe ben je in de put gevallen? Zelfs kinderen vallen niet in de put.”
The Astrologer said, “I was reading the stars and seeing the future.”
The villager said, “You pretend to read the stars. However, you did not see what was right in front of you. You should pay attention to what is in front of you. The future will take care of itself.”
TranslateDe astroloog zei: “Ik las de sterren en zag de toekomst.”
De dorpeling zei: ‘Je doet alsof je de sterren leest. Je zag echter niet wat er recht voor je was. Je moet aandacht besteden aan wat er voor je ligt. De toekomst zal voor zichzelf zorgen.”
Moral: “Take care of the little things and the big things will take care of themselves.”
TranslateMoraal: “Zorg voor de kleine dingen en de grote dingen zullen voor zichzelf zorgen.”
