Aesop’s Fables – Cauda do pavão
Once upon a time, all the birds could not fly and stayed on the land. The animals could catch the birds easily. This made the birds very sad. They went to God and asked for help.

The birds said, “My great God. We cannot fly. We cannot run. We cannot swim. We cannot even fight. Please help us so that we can save ourselves from the animals.”

The eagles, the vulture and the hawk said, “We wish to fly so high that nobody can catch us.”
God said, “You shall be able to fly even above the clouds.”
TranslateAs águias, o abutre e o falcão disseram: “Queremos voar tão alto que ninguém nos possa apanhar”.
Deus disse: “Você será capaz de voar até acima das nuvens.”
The eagles, the vulture and the hawk grew great powerful wings with which they could fly above the clouds and the storms.
TranslateAs águias, o abutre e o falcão desenvolveram grandes asas poderosas com as quais podiam voar acima das nuvens e das tempestades.
The sparrows and the smaller birds said, “If the eagles are flying so high, we are not safe there as well. Please give us wings so that we can fly fast within the trees.”
TranslateOs pardais e os pássaros menores disseram: “Se as águias estão a voar tão alto, não estamos seguros lá também. Por favor, dê-nos asas para pdermos voar rápido nas árvores. ”
God said, “You shall have small fast wings with which you can fly away quickly.”
The smaller birds grew small sharp wings with which they could fly in and out of trees.
TranslateDeus disse: “Você terá pequenas asas rápidas com as quais poderá voar para longe rapidamente.”
Os pássaros menores desenvolveram pequenas asas afiadas com as quais podiam voar para dentro e para fora das árvores.
The ducks, the geese and the swan said, “If the sky is fully taken, we are not safe there as well. Please give us a body so that we can swim.”
TranslateOs patos, os gansos e o cisne disseram: “Se o céu estiver totalmente tomado, não estaremos seguros lá também. Por favor, dê-nos um corpo para podermos nadar. ”
God said, “I have given the sea to the fish.”
The birds said, “Then let us swim above the water”

God said, “You shall have wings with which you can fly slowly but your bodies shall allow you to swim above the water.”

The ducks and the swan and the geese grew webbed feet with which they could swim.

Lastly came the Peacock who was very vain. He said, “I wish to have a beautiful and magnificent tail filled with a hundred shiny colours.”

God said, “But don’t you wish to fly?”
The peacock said, “No. I only wish to be beautiful”

God said, “You shall have a tail with which shall make you the envy of everyone”

The peacock grew the most beautiful tail in the world mixed with green and blue and gold and red and all that was beautiful. Everyone was stunned by his beauty for a few days.

Soon they became used to the peacock and he was just another bird. However, they could fly and he could not.

The peacock could only stare and feel bad when the other birds could fly to see the sunset or the sunrise. He could not fly and see the world. He could not touch the clouds. He was stuck to the ground.
