Tenali Raman – Tenali Raman et la déesse
One day, a great sage visited Tenali Raman’s village. He looked at Tenali Raman and said, “You are Tenali Raman. I can see into your future. You shall become a great poet and everyone in the Kingdom shall know your name.”

The sage told him, “Tenali, I will teach you an ancient prayer. You must recite this for 1008 times in the goddess Kali temple. The temple is located on the top of a mountain. Then the great Goddess herself will appear in front of you and grant your wish.”
TranslateLe sage lui dit: «Tenali, je vais vous enseigner une ancienne prière. Vous devez réciter cela 1008 fois dans le temple de la déesse Kali. Le temple est situé au sommet d’une montagne. Ensuite, la grande déesse elle-même apparaîtra devant vous et exaucera votre souhait.»
Tenali Raman believed in the sage and climbed the great mountain. He reached the temple after 7 days and sat in front of the idol. He recited the prayer for 1008 times. After some time, he heard a voice calling him, “Rama, Rama.”
TranslateTenali Raman croyait au sage et gravit la grande montagne. Il a atteint le temple après 7 jours et s’est assis devant l’idole. Il a récité la prière 1008 fois. Après un certain temps, il a entendu une voix l’appelant, «Rama, Rama.»
Tenali Raman opened his eyes, and in front of him was the great Goddess Kali. She had 1000 heads and 1000 arms! Each arm had a different weapon. She looked very scary. Tenali Raman began to laugh uncontrollably.

The goddess became confused. Everyone would be terrified to watch her. She asked, “Why are you laughing, Tenali? What is so funny? Do you not find me scary?”
TranslateLa déesse est devenue confuse. Tout le monde serait terrifié de la regarder. Elle a demandé: «Pourquoi riez-vous, Tenali? Qu’est-ce qui est si drôle? Vous ne me trouvez pas effrayant?»
Ramakrishna apologized and said, “My great Goddess, I was thinking about what would happen if you catch a cold. I imagined you sneezing with all your thousand noses and then using your thousand hands to wipe your faces.”
TranslateRamakrishna s’est excusé et a dit: «Ma grande déesse, je pensais à ce qui se passerait si vous attrapiez un rhume. Je vous imaginais en train d’éternuer de tous vos mille nez, puis d’utiliser tes mille mains pour essuyer vos visages.»
Goddess Kali laughed at his joke and said, “Tenali Raman, I like your sense of humour. I will give you a choice. I have two bowls in my hand, one contains the sweetest milk. If you drink it, you will acquire great knowledge about this world. The second bowl contains the sweetest curd. If you drink the curd, it would give you great wealth. You can choose only one bowl. Think carefully and pick one.”
TranslateLa déesse Kali a ri de sa blague et a dit: «Tenali Raman, j’aime votre sens de l’humour. Je vais vous donner un choix. J’ai deux bols à la main, l’un contient le lait le plus sucré. Si vous en buvez, vous acquerrez une grande connaissance de ce monde. Le deuxième bol contient le caillé le plus sucré. Si vous buvez du caillé, cela vous donnerait une grande richesse. Vous ne pouvez choisir qu’un seul bol. Réfléchissez bien et choisissez-en un.»
Tenali Raman stayed silent and then replied, “Kali Ma, can I taste both before drinking them? I like curd and I like milk.”
TranslateTenali Raman est resté silencieux et a ensuite répondu: «Kali Ma, puis-je goûter les deux avant de les boire? J’aime le caillé et j’aime le lait.»
The goddess smiled and agreed. She gave him both the bowls. Before the goddess Kali could realize what Tenali Raman was doing, he drank both the bowls fully.

Goddess Kali laughed loudly. She was very impressed with Tenali Raman’s intelligence and blessed him, saying, “You will become a great poet and will be known for your intelligence.”
TranslateLa déesse Kali a éclaté de rire. Elle a été très impressionnée par l’intelligence de Tenali Raman et l’a béni en disant: «Vous deviendrez un grand poète et serez connu pour votre intelligence.»
