Aesop’s Fables – Le loup et le chèvre
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful village where all the goats lived. In one of the houses, Mama Goat lived with her family. Papa Goat was a farmer and used to work in the fields. He planted wheat and grains which is used to make bread.
TranslateIl était une fois un beau village où vivaient toutes les chèvres. Dans l’une des maisons, la mère chèvre vivait avec sa famille. Le père chèvre était agriculteur et travaillait dans les champs. Il a planté du blé et des céréales qui servent à faire du pain.
Mama Goat was a teacher and taught the children how to read and write. One day Mama Goat wanted to go to the market to buy groceries for the house. Papa goat was already working in the fields.
TranslateLa mère chèvre était enseignante et enseignait aux enfants à lire et à écrire. Un jour, la mère chèvre a voulu aller au marché pour acheter des produits d’épicerie pour la maison. Le père chèvre travaillait déjà dans les champs.
Baby Goat was very young and used to go to school. The little Kid was very smart and was the topper of the school.
TranslateLe bébé chèvre était très jeune et allait à l’école. Le petit était très intelligent et était le top de l’école.
Mama Goat said, “Please take good care of the house, my child. I will be back from the market soon. Do not open the door for anyone. Lock it from the inside.”
Baby Goat said, “But Mama, then how will I know when you come back and knock on the door”.

Le bébé chèvre a dit: «Mais maman, alors comment saurai-je quand tu reviendras frapper à la porte».
Mama Goat said, “Let us use a password then. Open the door only if I say the password – Down with the wolf and all his race.”
The baby goat said, “Sure Mother. I will be careful.”
TranslateLa mère chèvre a dit: «Utilisons un mot de passe alors. N’ouvre la porte que si je dis le mot de passe – A bas le loup et toute sa race.»
Le bébé chèvre a dit: «Bien sûr, maman. Je serai prudent.”
Unfortunately a wolf was walking past and saw Mama Goat leave. A wolf has very sharp ears and it heard the entire conversation. It also heard the password very well.
TranslateMalheureusement, un loup passait et vit la mère chèvre partir. Un loup a des oreilles très pointues et il a entendu toute la conversation. Il a également très bien entendu le mot de passe.
The wolf waited until Mama Goat left and came to the door and knocked on the door and said, “Hey Baby Goat, it is me. Please open the door.”

The Baby Goat said, “Mama. Can you give me the password?”
The wolf said, “Down with the wolf and all his race.”

Le loup a dit: “A bas le loup et toute sa race.”
The Baby Goat thought, “The password is correct but the voice was too rough.” It did not sound like his mother. The Baby Goat was very smart. It said, “Show me your white hoof and I shall let you in.”
TranslateLe bébé chèvre pensa. «Le mot de passe est correct mais la voix était trop dure.» Cela ne ressemblait pas à sa mère. Le bébé chèvre était très intelligent. Il disait: «Montre-moi ton sabot blanc et je te laisserai entrer.»
Of course as you know, wolves have paws and do not have hooves. The wolf also is very black while the goats are white. The wolf could not show a white hoof to the baby Goat. The goat did not open the door and the wolf had to leave, hungry as before.
TranslateBien sûr, comme vous le savez, les loups ont des pattes et n’ont pas de sabots. Le loup est également très noir tandis que les chèvres sont blanches. Le loup ne pouvait pas montrer un sabot blanc au bébé chèvre. La chèvre n’ouvrit pas la porte et le loup dut partir, affamé comme avant.
The Baby Goat slowly opened the door and saw the wolf going towards the forest.
The baby Goat thought, “One can never be too sure. Two checks are definitely better than one.”
TranslateLe bébé chèvre ouvrit lentement la porte et vit le loup se diriger vers la forêt.
Le bébé Chèvre a pensé: «On ne peut jamais être trop sûr. Deux assurances valent certainement mieux qu’un. »
Moral: “Two sureties are better than one.”
TranslateMorale: «Deux cautions valent mieux qu’une.»
