Akbar and Birbal – Indian Stories – La gouttière et le pudding

 

Once upon a time, King Akbar and his favourite minister Birbal were having a long discussion. Akbar wanted to make fun of Birbal. Emperor Akbar started explaining one of his dreams.

Il était une fois le roi Akbar et son ministre préféré Birbal en discussion. Akbar voulait se moquer de Birbal. L’empereur Akbar a commencé à expliquer l’un de ses rêves.

 

Akbar said, “You and I were walking towards each other on a moonless night. We were in some other kingdom and not in the palace. It was very dark. It was so dark that we could not see each other at all. We collided and fell down.

Translate

Akbar a dit: «Vous et moi marchions l’un vers l’autre par une nuit sans lune. Nous étions dans un autre royaume et pas dans le palais. C’était très sombre. Il faisait si sombre que nous ne pouvions pas du tout nous voir. Nous sommes entrés en collision et sommes tombés.»

 

Akbar said, “I was very lucky and fell into a pool of Payasam. But guess what you fell into?”

Akbar a dit, »J’ai eu beaucoup de chance et je suis tombé dans une piscine de pudding. Mais devinez dans quoi vous êtes tombé?»

 

Birbal said, “What did I fall into, your Majesty?”

Akbar laughed loudly and said, “A gutter! You fell into an open gutter.”

Translate

Birbal a dit: “Dans quoi suis-je tombé, votre Majesté?”

Akbar a éclaté de rire et a dit: «Une gouttière! Vous êtes tombée dans une gouttière ouverte.»

 

Akbar and Birbal both laughed loudly at the King’s joke. The King was thrilled that he was able to make a joke on Birbal and Birbal was laughing as well. He thought the Birbal could not respond since it was a great joke and could not be replied to.

Akbar et Birbal ont tous deux éclaté de rire à la blague du roi. Le roi était ravi d’avoir pu faire une blague sur Birbal et Birbal riait aussi. Il pensait que le Birbal ne pouvait pas répondre car c’était une bonne blague à laquelle on ne pouvait pas répondre.

 

Birbal however was unperturbed. He was very clever and thought of a brilliant response.

Birbal était cependant imperturbable. Il était très intelligent et a pensé à une réponse brillante.

 

Birbal said, “Your Majesty, it is a wonder but I too had the same dream a few days ago. In my dream I fell into the gutter and you fell into the Payasam. But that was not the end of the dream. I slept some more and the end was different.

Translate

Birbal a dit: “Votre Majesté, c’est une merveille mais moi aussi j’ai fait le même rêve il y a quelques jours. Dans mon rêve, je suis tombé dans le caniveau et vous êtes tombé dans le pudding. Mais ce n’était pas la fin du rêve. J’ai dormi. un peu plus et la fin était différente.»

 

Akbar said, “What was the end of the dream?”

Translate

Akbar a dit: «Quelle a été la fin du rêve?»

 

Birbal said, “You climbed out of that pool of delicious Payasam and I climbed out of that gutter. We found that there was no water left in the world. We really needed to clean ourselves. Please guess what you ordered us to do?”

Translate

Birbal a dit: «Vous êtes sorti de cette piscine du pudding délicieux et je suis sorti de cette gouttière. Nous avons constaté qu’il n’y avait plus d’eau dans le monde. Nous avions vraiment besoin de nous nettoyer. S’il vous plaît devinez ce que vous nous avez ordonné de faire? »

 

Akbar said warily, “What was my order Birbal?”

Birbal said, “We could not see each other so you ordered us to lick each other clean!”

Translate

Akbar a dit avec méfiance, «Quel était mon ordre Birbal?»

Birbal a dit: «Nous ne pouvions pas nous voir, alors vous nous avez ordonné de nous lécher!»

 

The emperor became red with embarrassment but he laughed loudly. He decided not to try to get the better of Birbal again.

Translate

L’empereur devint rouge d’embarras mais il rit bruyamment. Il a décidé de ne pas essayer de prendre le dessus sur Birbal à nouveau.
