One day, King Krishnadevaraya was discussing in his court about cats. King Krishnadevaraya loved cats and he had many cats in his palace.

Um dia, o rei Krishnadevaraya estava a discutir na sua corte sobre gatos. O rei Krishnadevaraya amava gatos e tinha muitos gatos no seu palácio.

 

King Krishnadevaraya said, “Cats are the most intelligent animals in the world. They can climb trees, run very fast, do tricks and even catch the fastest prey by tricking them.”

O rei Krishnadevaraya disse: “Os gatos são os animais mais inteligentes do mundo. Eles podem subir em árvores, correr muito rápido, fazer truques e até mesmo pegar a presa mais rápida enganando-a.”

 

The ministers agreed. One minister said, “That is true, my King. My cat can do a flip without its back touching the ground.”

Os ministros concordaram. Um ministro disse: “Isso é verdade, o meu rei.O meu gato pode dar uma cambalhota sem que as suas costas toquem o chão. ”

 

Another minister said, “That is nothing. My cat can climb a wall which is over 12 foot tall!”

Another minister said, “That is easy. My cat can swim across the river to catch fish!”

Translate

Outro ministro disse: “Isso não é nada. O meu gato pode escalar uma parede com mais de 12 pés de altura! ”

Outro ministro disse: “Isso é fácil. O meu gato pode atravessar o rio a nado para pescar! ”

 

Each of the ministers started boasting about their cats. King Krishnadevaraya said, “Let us have a completion. Bring me a cat which can do something which no other cat can. I shall give you a 100 gold coins.”

Cada um dos ministros começou a se gabar de seus gatos. O rei Krishnadevaraya disse: “Vamos terminar. Traga-me um gato que possa fazer algo que nenhum outro gato pode. Vou dar-lhe 100 moedas de ouro. ”

 

There were many ministers and each brought a cat. Each cat did a variety of tricks but it was repeated by some other cat.

Havia muitos ministros e cada um trouxe um gato. Cada gato fez uma variedade de truques, mas foi repetido por algum outro gato.

 

Tenali Raman brought his cat and said, “My King. My cat will do something which no other cat in the world will do. Just give me one bowl of milk.”

Tenali Raman trouxe o seu gato e disse: “O meu rei. O meu gato fará algo que nenhum outro gato no mundo fará. Apenas me dê uma tigela de leite. ”

 

The servant brought one bowl of warm milk. Tenali Raman put his cat in front of the milk. The cat smelled the milk and ran away and hid under Tenali Raman’s clothes.

O servo trouxe uma tigela de leite morno. Tenali Raman colocou o seu gato na frente do leite. O gato cheirou o leite e fugiu e escondeu-se sob as roupas de Tenali Raman.

 

The King and the courtiers started to laugh, “How did you train your cat to be afraid of milk? Every cat loves milk. You cat must be the only cat which runs away from milk!”

Translate

O rei e os cortesãos começaram a rir: “Como treinou o seu gato para ter medo de leite? Todo gato adora leite. O seu gato deve ser o único gato que foge do leite! ”

 

Tenali Raman said, “I wanted to give my cat only the best milk. I used to boil the milk, cool it down and then give it to the cat. When she was a kitten, she was very greedy and tried to drink the boiling milk directly. Even before I could stop her, she burnt her tongue on the milk. Since then, she has been very afraid of milk. ”

The King gave Tenali Raman the 100 gold coins.

Tenali Raman disse: “Eu queria dar ao meu gato apenas o melhor leite. Eu fervia o leite, esfriava e dava para o gato. Quando ela era uma gatinha, ela era muito gulosa e tentava beber o leite fervente diretamente. Antes mesmo que eu pudesse impedi-la, ela queimou a língua no leite. Desde então, ela tem muito medo de leite. ”

O rei deu a Tenali Raman as 100 moedas de ouro.
