Aesop’s Fables –La pièce de cuivre
One day the royal sage was having a long discussion with the King in front of the court. The sage was very famous and the king respected him a lot. He bowed down to the King at the end of the conversation and a small copper coin fell down from his pocket and rolled away.
TranslateUn jour, le sage royal avait une longue discussion avec le roi devant la cour. Le sage était très célèbre et le roi le respectait beaucoup. Il se prosterna devant le roi à la fin de la conversation et une petite pièce de cuivre tomba de sa poche et roula.
The sage was very poor and this was all the money that he had. Every coin that he the king had given to him, he had given away to the poor people in the Kingdom. He immediately bent down and started to search for the coin. All the courtiers except Birbal began to laugh.
TranslateLe sage était très pauvre et c’était tout l’argent qu’il avait. Chaque pièce que le roi lui avait donnée, il l’avait donnée aux pauvres du Royaume. Il se pencha immédiatement et commença à chercher la pièce. Tous les courtisans, sauf Birbal, se mirent à rire.
A courtier said, “Your Majesty, look at the sage. Did you see what a miser he is? You have given him so many expensive gifts and thousands of coins to him. Still he is after a copper coin.”
TranslateUn courtisan a dit: «Votre Majesté, regardez le sage. Avez-vous vu quel avare il est? Vous lui avez donné tant de cadeaux coûteux et des milliers de pièces. Il est toujours à la recherche d’une pièce de monnaie en cuivre.»
The sage became very sad and bowed down. He was about to apologise when Birbal started to speak. Birbal knew the sage well and he knew that the sage would not reply back.
TranslateLe sage devint très triste et se prosterna. Il était sur le point de s’excuser lorsque Birbal a commencé à parler. Birbal connaissait bien le sage et il savait que le sage ne répondrait pas.
Birbal said, “The courtier is mistaken, My King! The sage is not looking for the tiny coin because he is a miser. The sage is looking for the coin only because one side of that coin bears your face. He does not want anyone to accidentally step on it.”
TranslateBirbal a dit: «Le courtisan se trompe, mon roi! Le sage ne cherche pas la minuscule pièce parce qu’il est un avare. Le sage ne cherche la pièce que parce qu’un côté de cette pièce porte votre visage. Il ne veut pas que quiconque marche accidentellement dessus.»
Akbar was very pleased to hear Birbal’s reply that he gave a hundred gold coins to the Sage.
TranslateAkbar était très heureux d’entendre la réponse de Birbal selon laquelle il avait donné cent pièces d’or au Sage.
