Aesop’s Fables – Autour du monde
Once upon a time, a great astronomer visited Akbar’s Kingdom. He was very wise and learned but was arrogant. He flaunted his knowledge about the earth, the solar system and the universe.
TranslateIl était une fois un grand astronome a visité le royaume d’Akbar. Il était très sage et savant, mais il était arrogant. Il a fait étalage de ses connaissances sur la terre, le système solaire et l’univers.
The Astronomer said to King Akbar “Many people say that the world is flat. It is round. We have found out that it is shaped like a sphere”
TranslateL’astronome a dit au roi Akbar: «Beaucoup de gens disent que le monde est plat. C’est rond. Nous avons découvert qu’il a la forme d’une sphère »
Akbar said, “You say that the earth is round in shape. So if I travel in a straight line around the world, then will I come back exactly here?”
TranslateAkbar a dit: «Vous dites que la terre est de forme ronde. Donc, si je voyage en ligne droite à travers le monde, est-ce que je reviendrai exactement ici? »
The astronomer said, “My King, you are correct!”
The King asked, “Why has no one done it already in real life?”
TranslateL’astronome a dit: «Mon Roi, tu as raison!»
Le roi a demandé: «Pourquoi personne ne l’a déjà fait dans la vraie vie?»
The astronomer said, “Because the route is no land alone. You will have to cross vast oceans, high mountains and dense forests to go around in a straight line.”
TranslateL’astronome a dit: «Parce que la route n’est pas seulement terrestre. Vous devrez traverser de vastes océans, de hautes montagnes et des forêts denses pour faire le tour en ligne droite.»
The King said, “Well, that can be easily done then. We have boats to sail across oceans. We can cross mountains on horses. We use elephants to cross the forests”.
TranslateLe roi a dit: «Eh bien, cela peut être facilement fait alors. Nous avons des bateaux pour traverser les océans. Nous pouvons traverser des montagnes à cheval. Nous utilisons des éléphants pour traverser les forêts ».
“Yes sir. It is possible but is still extremely difficult,”
Akbar asked, “Why?”
Translate«Oui Monsieur. C’est possible mais c’est toujours extrêmement difficile »,
Akbar a demandé, «Pourquoi? »
The astronomer said, “It will take many years to complete the whole journey. The earth is very large.”
TranslateL’astronome a déclaré: «Il faudra de nombreuses années pour terminer tout le voyage. La terre est très grande.»
Akbar said, “Can you tell me how many years it would take to cross the world?”
TranslateAkbar a dit: «Pouvez-vous me dire combien d’années il faudrait pour traverser le monde?»
The astronomer said, “No one can calculate that! My guess is that it will take a more than a hundred years.”
TranslateL’astronome a dit: «Personne ne peut calculer cela! Je suppose que cela prendra plus de cent ans. »
King Akbar said, “I will ask my courtiers. They have an answer for everything,”
Various answers came from the audience:
TranslateLe roi Akbar a dit: «Je vais demander à mes courtisans. Ils ont une réponse à tout, »
Diverses réponses sont venues du public:
One courtier said, “This is impossible to calculate!”
Another courtier said “It will take around 25 years!”
TranslateUn courtisan a dit: «C’est impossible à calculer!»
Un autre courtisan a déclaré: «Cela prendra environ 25 ans!»
One courtier said, “It will take fifty years.”
One courtier said, “Ten years!”
TranslateUn courtisan a dit: «Cela prendra cinquante ans.»
Un courtisan a dit: «Dix ans!»
Everybody said something or the other but Birbal kept quiet.
King Akbar said, “Birbal, why are you so silent. Can you tell me an answer for this question?”
TranslateTout le monde a dit quelque chose mais Birbal a gardé le silence.
Le roi Akbar a dit: «Birbal, pourquoi êtes-vous si silencieux. Pouvez-vous me donner une réponse à cette question? »
Birbal said, “My King, I was calculating the time required to go around the earth”
King Akbar asked, “Do you have the answer?”
Birbal said, “Yes! It will take just one day”
TranslateBirbal a déclaré: «Mon roi, je calculais le temps nécessaire pour faire le tour de la terre»
Le roi Akbar a demandé: «Avez-vous la réponse?»
Birbal a dit: «Oui! Cela ne prendra qu’un jour »
King Akbar laughed and said, “Only one day! Even I know that it is Impossible! How can you even say that answer. In one day, we cannot cross one end of our kingdom to another”.
TranslateLe roi Akbar a ri et a dit: «Un seul jour! Même moi, je sais que c’est impossible! Comment pouvez-vous même dire cette réponse. En un jour, nous ne pouvons pas traverser une extrémité de notre royaume à une autre ».
Birbal laughed and said, “Yes my King. It is possible. If you travel on turtle back, it will take you 1000s of years. If you travel on the back of the fastest horse, it will take you a few years. However, if you travel at the speed of the sun, it will take you exactly one day.”
TranslateBirbal a ri et a dit: «Oui, mon roi. C’est possible. Si vous voyagez à dos de tortue, cela vous prendra des milliers d’années. Si vous voyagez à dos du cheval le plus rapide, cela vous prendra quelques années. Cependant, si vous voyagez à la vitesse du soleil, cela vous prendra exactement un jour. »
