Het konijn de wezel en de kat – Aesop’s Fables
Aesop Fables are among the oldest and most famous of short stories in the world. In the perry index, there are hundreds of short stories listed as a part of the Aesop Fables. This story is called as “Het konijn de wezel en de kat” which translates to “The rabbit, the weasel and the cat”. In this story, a stag is very sick and he learns who real friends are and who fake friends are.

The story – Het konijn de wezel en de kat
Mr. Rabbit lived in the forest. He had his own burrow which he kept clean and neat. The burrow even had a door with a latch and a lock so that no one could steal his things. He really liked his burrow a lot.
One day, Mr. Rabbit went out to search for some carrots and cabbage to have for dinner.
TranslateMeneer Konijn woonde in het bos. Hij had zijn eigen hol dat hij schoon en netjes hield. Het hol had zelfs een deur met een klink en een slot zodat niemand zijn spullen kon stelen. Hij vond zijn hol erg leuk.
Op een dag ging meneer Konijn op zoek naar wat wortelen en kool voor het avondeten.
HOP! HOP! HOP! He hopped to the farm to search for carrots. He was in a hurry and forgot to lock his house.
A weasel was searching for a nice house. He found the burrow of Mr. Rabbit and the door was not locked. He went in and saw that it was a very clean and nice burrow.
TranslateHOP! HOP! HOP! Hij sprong naar de boerderij om wortels te zoeken. Hij had haast en vergat zijn huis op slot te doen.
Een wezel was op zoek naar een mooi huis. Hij vond het hol van meneer Konijn en de deur was niet op slot. Hij ging naar binnen en zag dat het een heel schoon en mooi hol was.
Mr. Weasel decided, “Such a beautiful burrow. I shall live here.”
He moved in with his things. When the rabbit came back (HOP! HOP! HOP!), he saw that the weasel had moved into his burrow.
TranslateMeneer Wezel besloot: “Zo’n mooi hol. Ik zal hier wonen.”
Hij trok in met zijn spullen. Toen het konijn terugkwam (HOP! HOP! HOP!), Zag hij dat de wezel zijn hol was binnengegaan.
…
Mr. Rabbit was angry. Mr. Rabbit was very angry.
Mr. Rabbit said, “Mr. Weasel, what are you doing in my house. Please leave.”
Mr. Weasel said, “Your house? There was no lock on the door. This is my house now.”
The weasel and the rabbit began to argue when a wise old cat came along.
TranslateMeneer Konijn was boos. Meneer Konijn was erg boos.
Meneer Konijn zei: “Mr. Wezel, wat doe je in mijn huis. Ga alstublieft weg.”
Meneer Wezel zei: “Uw huis? Er zat geen slot op de deur. Dit is nu mijn huis.”
De wezel en het konijn begonnen ruzie te maken toen een wijze oude kat langskwam.
The Cat thought, “Such a fine dinner I will have if I can catch them both.”
The cat said, “What happened here? Come near me and speak since I am old and deaf.”
The weasel and the rabbit were so angry that they did not think that Mr. Cat could eat them. They went near the cat to speak. The cat caught them both with its paws.
TranslateDe Kat dacht: “Wat een heerlijk diner zal ik hebben als ik ze allebei kan vangen.”
De kat zei: “Wat is hier gebeurd? Kom bij mij en spreek, want ik ben oud en doof.”
De wezel en het konijn waren zo boos dat ze niet dachten dat meneer Kat ze zou opeten. Ze gingen naar de kat toe om te praten. De kat ving ze allebei met zijn poten.
Moral of the story:
“The strong are apt to settle questions to their own advantage.”
Moraal
“De sterken zijn geneigd om vragen in hun eigen voordeel op te lossen.”
