Akbar and Birbal – De kraaien in het koninkrijk
Once upon a time, King Akbar was walking around the palace garden with Birbal. Birbal was famous for being very clever and Akbar always kept testing him.
King Akbar saw a crow and thought, “Let me test the wit of Birbal. I will give him a question which is impossible to solve.”

Koning Akbar zag een kraai en dacht: “Laat me de scherpzinnigheid van Birbal testen. Ik zal hem een vraag voorleggen die onmogelijk op te lossen is.”
King Akbar said to Birbal, “Dear Birbal, how many crows are there in our kingdom?”
Birbal thought for a moment and then said, “My king, there are eighty thousand nine hundred and ninety three crows in the kingdom.”
TranslateKoning Akbar zei tegen Birbal: “Beste Birbal, hoeveel kraaien zijn er in ons koninkrijk?”
Birbal dacht even na en zei toen: “Mijn koning, er zijn tachtigduizend negenhonderddrieënnegentig kraaien in het koninkrijk.”
King Akbar was surprised and amazed to hear the answer. He wanted to know how Birbal was giving him such a number without counting.
King Akbar said, “How can you say so surely? What if there are more crows than that?”
Birbal said, “Then there are crows from other cities which have come here to visit their relatives and friends.”
TranslateKoning Akbar was verrast en verbaasd om het antwoord te horen. Hij wilde weten hoe Birbal hem zo’n nummer gaf zonder te tellen.
Koning Akbar zei: ‘Hoe kun je dat zo zeker zeggen? Wat als er meer kraaien zijn dan dat?”
Birbal zei: “Dan zijn er kraaien uit andere steden die hier zijn gekomen om hun familie en vrienden te bezoeken.”
King Akbar laughed and asked, “Fine. What if there are less crows than that?”
Birbal said, “Then crows from our Kingdom have gone to other cities to visit their relatives and friends.”
Akbar was very happy with the response and gave him 100 gold coins for his wit and intellect.
TranslateKoning Akbar lachte en vroeg: “Prima. Wat als er minder kraaien zijn dan dat?”
Birbal zei: “Dan zijn kraaien uit ons koninkrijk naar andere steden gegaan om hun familie en vrienden te bezoeken.”
Akbar was erg blij met de reactie en gaf hem 100 gouden munten voor zijn humor en intellect.
Moral: There is always a solution if one thinks creatively.
