Tenali Raman – Tenali Raman y la condición del Rey
One night, King Krishnadevaraya was fast asleep. He had a strange and wonderful dream. He dreamt that he was living in a magnificent palace.

The palace was not a normal palace. It was magical, made of dazzling precious stones and pure gold. The palace was magical because it was floating in the clouds.

The palace had every comfort the king could imagine. The palace was lit by a thousand stars that floated around the castle. In the night, the stars would disappear and the palace would also disappear into the darkness.

Everyone was startled. The courtiers and even the servants knew that it was impossible to build a floating palace. It was impossible to build a palace surrounded by stars. There was not enough gold in the world to build a palace made of pure gold.

“Who robbed you?” asked the king angrily. “You name him and I will have him hanged immediately!”
The old man said, “I will tell you but first promise me that you will not get angry and punish me instead.”
Translate“¿Quién te robó?” preguntó el rey enojado. “¡Nómbralo y haré que lo cuelguen de inmediato!”
El anciano dijo: “Se lo diré, pero primero prométame que no se enojará ni me castigará.”.
“I promise you. Tell me his name”, said the King.
The old man said, “It is you, my lord,”
Translate“Te lo prometo. Dime su nombre.”, dijo el Rey.
El anciano dijo: “Es usted, mi Señor.”.
The King became very angry but he had promised the old man that he would not punish him. He asked that the old man to explain.
TranslateEl rey se enojó mucho, pero le había prometido al anciano que no lo castigaría. Le pidió al anciano que se explicara.
The old man said, “Last night, I had a dream. You came in the middle of the night and stole all my savings. Five hundred gold coins!”
TranslateEl anciano dijo: “Anoche tuve un sueño. Usted vino en medio de la noche y me robó todos mis ahorros. ¡Quinientas monedas de oro!”.
The King said, “Are you a fool? A dream is different from real life? Dreams are not true!”
The old man replied, “My King, if your dream of a floating palace can come true, why can’t my dream come true?”
TranslateEl Rey dijo: “¿Eres tonto? ¡Un sueño es diferente a la vida real! ¡Los sueños no son verdad!”.
El anciano respondió: “Mi Rey, si su sueño de un palacio flotante puede hacerse realidad, ¿por qué mi sueño no puede hacerse realidad?”.
The old man took off his white beard and white hair. It was Tenali Raman!
Tenali Raman bowed before the king and said, “My King, this was the only way of convince you that building the palace is impossible since it is just a dream.”
