Tne day, a horse trader came to Krishandevaraya’s court. He said to the king that he was from Saudi Arabia. He had a beautiful black horse with him. It was the most beautiful horse which Krishnadevaraya had seen.

Un día, un comerciante de caballos llegó a la Corte de Krishandevaraya. Le dijo al Rey que era de Arabia Saudita. Tenía un hermoso caballo negro con él. Era el caballo más hermoso que Krishnadevaraya había visto.

 

 

The horse trader said, “My King, please see this beautiful horse! It is my finest and the best breed. It can run for miles without taking rest and has no fear in war.

El comerciante de caballos dijo: “¡Mi Rey, por favor, vea este hermoso caballo! Es de mi mejor y más fina raza. Puede correr kilómetros sin descansar y no tiene miedo en la guerra.”.

 

 

Krishandevaraya replied, “This is the a breed which I do not have in my stable. I shall buy it from you.

The horse trader said, “My King, will only one horse be enough for a great king? I have eleven more horses in my stable. I can go and get them all for you.”

Krishandevaraya respondió: “Esta es una raza que no tengo en mi establo. Te lo compraré.”.

El comerciante de caballos dijo: “Mi Rey, ¿solo un caballo será suficiente para un gran Rey? Tengo once caballos más en mi establo. Puedo ir a buscarlos todos para usted.”.

 

 

The king saw the beautiful horse standing in front of him and said, “I agree with you. I will buy all the twelve horses from you”.

El Rey vio al hermoso caballo parado frente a él y dijo: “Estoy de acuerdo contigo. Te compraré los doce caballos.”.

 

 

The horse trader said, “My King. I need an advance of 5000 gold coins. I shall ride this horse and travel to my stables just outside the kingdom. I shall bring all bring all 12 horses over to your stable in three days.”

El comerciante de caballos dijo: “Mi Rey. Necesito un anticipo de 5000 monedas de oro. Montaré este caballo y viajaré a mis establos en las afueras del reino. Llevaré los 12 caballos a su establo en tres días.”.

 

 

The King was very happy and asked the treasurer to give the coins to the horse trader. The horse trader took the money and left. Three days passed and then one week passed.

El Rey estaba muy contento y le pidió al tesorero que le diera las monedas al comerciante de caballos. El comerciante de caballos tomó el dinero y se fue. Pasaron tres días, luego pasó una semana.

 

 

Krishnadevaraya became very worried. He said to Tenali Raman, “Where is the horse trader? He said that he would be back in 3 days but it was already one week”

Krishnadevaraya se preocupó mucho. Le dijo a Tenali Raman: “¿Dónde está el comerciante de caballos? Dijo que volvería en 3 días, pero ya pasó una semana.”.

 

 

Tenali Raman was writing something urgently on a piece of paper. Krishandevaraya said, “What are you writing so urgently, Tenali Raman?”

Tenali Raman estaba escribiendo algo urgententemente en un pedazo de papel. Krishandevaraya dijo: “¿Qué estás escribiendo con tanta urgencia, Tenali Raman?”.

 

 

Tenali Raman replied, “I’m writing the list of the biggest fools in your kingdom.”

Krishna Deva Raya said, “Let me have a look.”

Tenali Raman respondió: “Estoy escribiendo la lista de los mayores tontos de su reino.”.

Krishna Deva Raya dijo: “Déjame echar un vistazo.”.

 

 

Tenali Raman handed him the paper. Krishna Deva Raya was very angry since his name was on the top of the list.

The king said, “Why is my name on this list? I’m the king!”

Tenali Raman le entregó el papel. Krishna Deva Raya se enojó mucho al ver su nombre en la parte superior de la lista.

El Rey dijo: “¿Por qué está mi nombre en esta lista? ¡Soy el Rey!”.

 

 

Tenali Raman replied, “My King, You gave a total stranger 5000 gold coins without even seeing his horses or knowing his name. You still believe that he will return.”

Translate

Tenali Raman respondió: “Mi Rey, le dio a un completo extraño 5000 monedas de oro sin siquiera ver sus caballos o saber su nombre. Todavía cree que volverá.”.

 

 

Krishandevaraya said, “What if he returns?”

Tenali Raman replied, “I will put his name at the top of the list and remove your name.”

Translate

Krishandevaraya dijo: “¿Y si regresa?”.

Tenali Raman respondió: “Pondré el nombre del comerciante en la parte superior de la lista y eliminaré el suyo.”.

 

 

Another two weeks passed and the horse trader never came back. Krishnadevaraya became very sad.

Translate

Pasaron otras dos semanas y el comerciante de caballos nunca regresó. Krishnadevaraya estaba muy triste.

 

 

Krishnadevaraya called Tenali Raman and said, “I understand why you wrote my name on the list. I will always consult you now on important matters.”

Translate

Krishnadevaraya llamó a Tenali Raman y le dijo: “Entiendo por qué escribiste mi nombre en la lista. Siempre te consultaré sobre asuntos importantes.”.

 

 

Tenali Raman gave him the list again. The king was confused. The Horse trader’s name was on top of the list and his name was not on the list.

Tenali Raman le volvió a entregar la lista. El Rey estaba confundido. El nombre del comerciante de caballos estaba en la parte superior de la lista, y su nombre ya no estaba en la lista.

 

 

Krishandevaraya asked, “Why is his name on the list? Did he bring the horses?”

Tenali Raman replied, “No, my King. I added his name on the list since he thought that he would escape easily. I asked two guards to follow him and he was arrested when he was trying to escape.”

Krishandevaraya preguntó: “¿Por qué está su nombre en la lista? ¿Trajo los caballos?”.

Tenali Raman respondió: “No, mi Rey. Agregué su nombre en la lista porque pensó que escaparía fácilmente. Le pedí a dos guardias que lo siguieran y lo arrestaron cuando intentaba escapar.”.

 

 

Krishandevaraya was very happy and said, “You are so smart Tenali. But why is my name not on the list? I was a fool.”

Translate

Krishandevaraya se alegró mucho y dijo: “Eres tan inteligente, Tenali. Pero, ¿por qué mi nombre no está en la lista? Fui un tonto.”.

 

 

Tenali Raman replied, “My King. I removed your name from the list since you are smart enough to trust me to be your minister. The 5000 coins have been returned to the treasury.”

Translate

Tenali Raman respondió: “Mi Rey. Eliminé su nombre de la lista porque es usted lo suficientemente inteligente como para confiar en mí para ser su ministro. Las 5000 monedas han sido devueltas al tesorero.”.

 

 

Krishandevaraya was very happy and awarded Tenali Raman with 500 gold coins.
