Spanish short stories – Learning Spanish through English Akbar and Birbal – Agua o leche   Once upon a time, King Akbar was taking a walk in his garden with his favourite minister Birbal. King Akbar was a very just and fair king and so he always believed that his people loved him. Translate

Érase una vez el rey Akbar, quien daba un paseo por su jardín con su ministro favorito, Birbal. El rey Akbar era un rey muy justo y equitativo, por lo que siempre creyó que su pueblo lo amaba.
  King Akbar said, “Birbal. I believe that my people respect me since I am a good king. I believe that everyone in my kingdom loves me because I am a great king and am just and fair.” Translate
El rey Akbar dijo: “Birbal. Creo que mi gente me respeta porque soy un buen Rey. Creo que todos en mi reino me aman porque soy un gran Rey, justo y equitativo.”.
  Birbal said, “My dear King, you are right. Everyone in the kingdom loves you which is why they do not leave the kingdom and go elsewhere. They however also fear you.” Translate
Birbal dijo: “Mi querido Rey, tiene razón. Todos en el reino lo aman, por eso no abandonan el reino para irse a otra parte. Sin embargo, también le temen.”.
  King Akbar frowned and said, “That is not possible. How can one love me and fear me at the same time? I do not believe it.” Birbal said, “Let me prove it to you, my King.” Translate
El rey Akbar frunció el ceño y dijo: “Eso no es posible. ¿Cómo puede uno amarme y temerme al mismo tiempo? No lo creo.”. Birbal dijo: “Déjeme probárselo, mi Rey.”.
  The next day, Akbar announced to his people that he was going on a very dangerous hunt. He would be hunting a dangerous and mad elephant. Translate
Al día siguiente, Akbar anunció a su gente que se embarcaría en una cacería muy peligrosa. Cazaría un elefante salvaje y peligroso.
  King Akbar said, “There is a large tub in the center of the city. If you love me, pour one glass of milk inside the tub and pray for me.” Translate
El rey Akbar dijo: “Hay una gran tina de baño en el centro de la ciudad. Si me aman, viertan un vaso de leche dentro de la tina y recen por mí.”.
  King Akbar pretended to leave the city and came back one day later. The tub was filled with milk which was mixed with water. Translate
El rey Akbar fingió salir de la ciudad y regresar al día siguiente. La tina estaba llena de leche mezclada con agua.
  The next day, Akbar announced to his people that he was again going on a dangerous hunt. He would be hunting the same dangerous and mad elephant. Translate
Al día siguiente, Akbar anunció a su gente que nuevamente se embarcaría en una cacería peligrosa. Cazaría al mismo elefante salvaje y peligroso.
  King Akbar said, “There is the same large tub in the center of the city. If you love me, pour one glass of milk inside the tub and pray for me. I shall check who is pouring the milk and who is not.” Translate
El rey Akbar dijo: “Estará la misma tina de baño en el centro de la ciudad. Si me aman, viertan un vaso de leche dentro de la tina y recen por mí. Verificaré quién vierte la leche y quién no.”.
  King Akbar pretended to leave the city and came back one day later. The tub was filled with pure milk. Translate
El rey Akbar fingió salir de la ciudad y regresar al día siguiente. La tina estaba llena de leche pura.
  Birbal said, “I have proved that your people love and fear you. The first time, there were many who poured water into the tub hoping that the others would pour milk. You did not say anything about checking. They still loved you and wanted to fill the tub. The next day, they filled it up with pure milk since they feared what would happen if they were caught.” Translate
Birbal dijo: “He demostrado que su gente lo ama y le teme. La primera vez, hubo muchos que vertieron agua en la tina con la esperanza de que los demás vertieran leche. Usted no dijo nada sobre verificar. Aun así, lo amaban y querían llenar la bañera. Al día siguiente, la llenaron solo de leche porque temían lo que pasaría si los atrapaban.”.
