Aesop’s  Fables – El Asno y los Saltamontes

 

Once upon a time, there was an Ass which lived in a big farm. Next to the farm, there was a pond and a forest. There were a lot of grasshoppers living in the farm.

Translate

Érase una vez un Asno que vivía en una gran granja. Junto a la granja, había un estanque y un bosque. Había muchos Saltamontes que vivían en la granja.

 

The grasshopper is a very merry creature. They love summer. They chirp throughout the summer making lovely songs.

Translate

Los Saltamontes son unas criaturas muy alegres. Aman el verano. Cantan durante todo el verano haciendo canciones preciosas.

 

The Ass thought, “They have such melodious voices. I too wish to sing like them.”

He decided that he would go and ask the grasshoppers their secret.

Translate

El Asno pensó: “Tienen voces tan melodiosas. Yo también desearía cantar como ellos.”.

Decidió que iría a preguntarles a los Saltamontes su secreto.

 

The Ass said to the grasshoppers, “BRAAAY! BRAAAY! Dear Grasshoppers. Would you sing a song for me, you have such a melodious voice”

Translate

El Asno les dijo a los saltamontes: “¡BRAAAY! ¡BRAAAY! Queridos Saltamontes. ¿Me cantarían una canción?, tienen una voz tan melodiosa.”.

 

The Grasshoppers were always happy to sing. They sang a very beautiful song for the Ass.

Los Saltamontes estaban siempre felices de cantar. Cantaron una canción muy bonita para el Asno.

 

CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP!

 

The Ass said, “BRAAAY! BRAAAY! That was so beautiful. Can you tell me how to sing? I too wish to have a melodious voice.”

Translate

 

CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

CHIRP! CHIRP!

 

El Asno dijo: “¡BRAAAY! ¡BRAAAY! Eso fue tan hermoso. ¿Pueden decirme cómo cantar? Yo también deseo tener una voz melodiosa.”.

 

The Grasshoppers were very mischievous. They decided to trick the Ass.

Translate

Los Saltamontes eran muy juguetones. Decidieron engañar al Asno.

 

They said to the Ass, “CHIRP! CHIRP! Can you see the dew on top of the grass? We drink only the dew. We do not eat the grass. The grass makes your voice sound harsh.”

Translate

Le dijeron al Asno: “¡CHIRP! ¡CHIRP! ¿Puedes ver el rocío sobre la hierba? Bebemos solo el rocío. No comemos la hierba. La hierba hace que tu voz suene áspera.”.

 

The Ass said, “Thank you so much for telling me.”

Translate

El Asno dijo: “Muchas gracias por decirme.”.

 

For the next two days, the Ass licked the grass and did not eat. He was very tired and he fainted. When the Ass woke up, he had learned his lesson.

Durante los siguientes dos días, el Asno lamió la hierba y no la comió. Estaba muy cansado y se desmayó. Cuando el Asno despertó, había aprendido la lección.

 

Moral: “The laws of nature are unchangeable.”

Translate

Moraleja: Las leyes de la naturaleza son inmutables.
