Akbar and Birbal –La tête du serviteur
One day King Akbar was having dinner with a guest. The guest was drinking her soup when she suddenly screamed.
TranslateUn jour, le roi Akbar dînait avec un invité. L’invité buvait sa soupe quand elle a soudain crié.
“Aaaaaahhhh… there is a fly in my soup. There is a fly in my soup. Is this how you treat your guests, oh great King Akbar?”
Translate«Aaaaaahhhh … il y a une mouche dans ma soupe. Il y a une mouche dans ma soupe. Est-ce ainsi que vous traitez vos invités, ô grand roi Akbar? »
Emperor Akbar got so displeased that he shouted at a guard, “Who is the cook who made this soup? Bring me his head in a plate by tomorrow morning”.
TranslateL’empereur Akbar a été si mécontent qu’il a crié à un garde: «Qui est le cuisinier qui a fait cette soupe? Apportez-moi sa tête dans une assiette d’ici demain matin ».
The guard was terrified to hear the Emperor’s orders. It was a simple mistake. The cook was such a nice person and he did not deserve to die for such a small act.

The guard went to Birbal and pleaded with him to save the cook’s life. Birbal was a very clever man. He quickly thought of a clever plan and told the guard not to kill the cook. Birbal assured him that he would save the cook.
TranslateLe garde s’est rendu à Birbal et l’a supplié de sauver la vie du cuisinier. Birbal était un homme très intelligent. Il a rapidement pensé à un plan intelligent et a dit au garde de ne pas tuer le cuisinier. Birbal lui a assuré qu’il sauverait le cuisinier.
Birbal and the guard took the cook alive to the court next morning. Emperor Akbar got very angry at Birbal and the guard on seeing the cook alive.
TranslateBirbal et le garde ont emmené le cuisinier vivant à la cour le lendemain matin. L’empereur Akbar s’est énervé contre Birbal et le garde en voyant le cuisinier vivant.
He asked the Birbal angrily, “I ordered you to kill the cook. Why is he still alive?”
TranslateIl a demandé au Birbal avec colère: «Je vous ai ordonné de tuer le cuisinier. Pourquoi est-il toujours en vie?»
Birbal said, “My King, he was making breakfast and lunch for you and your family as he has done so for the past 10 years.”
TranslateBirbal a déclaré: «Mon roi, il préparait le petit-déjeuner et le déjeuner pour vous et votre famille, comme il le fait depuis 10 ans.»
Akbar realized what he had done was wrong. The guest was angrily staring at Akbar. Birbal saw the angry guest and started speaking.
TranslateAkbar réalisa que ce qu’il avait fait était mal. L’invité fixait avec colère Akbar. Birbal a vu l’invité en colère et a commencé à parler.
Birbal said politely, “You have asked the guard yesterday to bring the head of the cook on a plate. As promised, I shall put his head on a plate.”
TranslateBirbal a dit poliment: «Vous avez demandé hier au garde d’amener la tête du cuisinier sur une assiette. Comme promis, je mettrai sa tête sur une assiette.»
Birbal put a plate on the floor and the cook put his head down on the plate. Everyone in the court started laughing. Even the guest and King Akbar laughed loudly.
TranslateBirbal posa une assiette sur le sol et le cuisinier posa sa tête sur l’assiette. Tout le monde dans la cour a commencé à rire. Même l’invité et le roi Akbar ont éclaté de rire.
Akbar was so pleased with Birbal’s defence that he spared the cook’s life.
TranslateAkbar était tellement satisfait de la défense de Birbal qu’il a épargné la vie du cuisinier.
