Aesop’s Fables – El Perro y su reflejo
Once upon a time, there was a dog who lived in the woods. One day he found a large bone on the road. He was so happy.
TranslateÉrase una vez un Perro que vivía en el bosque. Un día encontró un hueso grande en el camino. Estaba tan feliz.
The dog said, “Look. Such a lovely bone! It is so big and juicy. I shall feast on it today.”
TranslateEl Perro dijo: “Mira. ¡Qué hueso tan hermoso! Es tan grande y jugoso. Hoy me daré un festín.”.
The dog picked up the bone and started walking towards the forest. He was crossing a bridge which had very still water beneath. The water reflected like a mirror and what did he see? He saw himself, a dog holding a bone.
TranslateEl Perro recogió el hueso y empezó a caminar hacia el bosque. Estaba cruzando un puente que tenía agua muy quieta debajo. El agua reflejaba como un espejo y, ¿qué vio? Se vio a sí mismo, un perro sosteniendo un hueso.
But the dog was very greedy. It looked as if the dog below was carrying a much bigger bone.
He thought, “How can another dog have a bigger bone than me”.
TranslatePero el Perro era muy codicioso. Parecía como si el Perro de abajo llevara un hueso mucho más grande.
Pensó: “¿Cómo puede otro perro tener un hueso más grande que el mío?”.
He snarled. In the reflection, he saw a dog snarling back. He raised his paws angrily. In the reflection, he saw a dog raising the paws angrily.
TranslateGruñó. En el reflejo, vio a un Perro gruñir también. Levantó las patas con enojo. En el reflejo, vio a un Perro que levantaba las patas con enojo también.
He thought, “How can another dog snarl at me. How can another dog raise its paws at me?”
TranslatePensó: “¿Cómo puede otro Perro gruñirme? ¿Cómo puede otro Perro levantarme las patas?”.
Thinking in anger, he jumped into the water and found no dog. He had to swim for his dear life. He scrambled out but lost the bone. He finally realized how stupid he had been and how greedy he had been.
TranslatePensando con ira, saltó al agua, pero no encontró ningún perro. Tuvo que nadar por su preciada vida. Salió a tropiezos, pero perdió el hueso. Finalmente se dio cuenta de lo estúpido y lo codicioso que había sido.
Moral: “It is very foolish to be greedy.”
TranslateMoraleja: “Es muy tonto ser codicioso.”
